My art room is a place where students can come to be their very best creative self. I believe strongly in encouraging students to try new ideas in art, even if they do not think they are artists themselves. I also push students to think and problem solve like artists. To do this, we explore new materials and contemporary artists, as well as famous artists and artworks of the past. Since art can be very subjective, in my room I grade the individual student based not on their "artistic ability" but on measurable objectives such as neatness, completion, and following project directions. No one can become Picasso overnight! However, my biggest expectation is that my students remain open-minded and give every project a try - they never know what they might be able to accomplish!
