CLASS OF 2026 – PENN STATE

Penn State will be coming to the high school to help any student who has not applied or completed their application for Penn State yet. You must sign up on your Class of 2026 TEAMS page to attend. If you have any questions, please see your guidance counselor.

CLASS OF 2027 – JUNIOR SEMI

Tickets are on sale now through TOMORROW, March 13th! Tickets are $30. Buy soon before they sell out! Please submit a list of the 10 attendees sitting at your table before the 13th to ensure table arrangements. Tickets are on sale in room 240 and 225 of the high school building. All other buildings please purchase in the main office of that building.

CLASS OF 2027 – PENN STATE CLASSES

Hazleton Area Juniors have an opportunity to take college classes at Penn State Hazleton for free next school year. Please see your Teams account for details and see your guidance counselor to sign up. Spots will fill up quickly, so don't wait to guarantee your spot in these classes.

CLASS OF 2028 – JUNIOR LEADERSHIP

Junior Leadership is an exciting program for incoming juniors who want to build leadership skills and explore the community. Students will participate in an eight-day session that counts as excused school days. To apply, simply complete the application and submit two references to your guidance counselor by Monday, March 30, 2026.

CLASS OF 2028 - PSAT

The PSAT 10 will be administered on April 29th. This is a free practice assessment for the SAT, helping you prepare for future college admissions testing. See your counselor to sign up. Spots are limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. If you have already signed up in your classroom, you do not need to sign up again.

CLASS OF 2029

The Class of 2029 is excited to hold the 3rd annual Pi Day fundraiser. Every vote gets you the chance to pie your favorite teacher. Votes are $1 each.

CHESS CLUB

There will be a Chess Club meeting TODAY, Thursday 3/12/26 after school in the high school library. The meeting will last until 4:00. All interested students in grades 9-12, and all faculty, are welcome to attend. Interested students who cannot attend are encouraged to email Mr. Teter using teterr@hasdk12.org.

LIFESAVERS CLUB

v The Organ Donation poster contest will be extended through TOMORROW, 13th of March. Contest rules are on the Life Savers board.

v There will be a FINGER KNITTING class on Wednesday the 18th, from 3-5 in the HS Library. Participants should register for this event and are required to provide their own yarn. QR code for registration can be found on the Life Savers Board.

v The Spring Blood Drive will be held on March 24th from 8-1pm in the LOBBY AREA of the Gym. Previous donors are encouraged to bring a friend. Permission slips are required for 16-year-olds, and can be found along with information about blood donation, by the D stairwell on the 2nd floor.

GUIDANCE

SAT

All students who have registered for this Saturday's administration of the DIGITAL SAT are reminded that the Hazleton test center opens at 7:15 A.M. Test takers should be prepared with your fully charged district-issued Chromebook, pencils or pens, admission ticket, current photo identification, an approved calculator, if desired. Check the College Board website to see what else you may bring to the test. All students should test the Bluebook app and their college board credentials prior to Saturday.

STEM APPLICATION

Students who would like to apply to the STEM School should sign up with their counselor. The deadline to sign up to test is April 3rd.

KING’S LLEO PROGRAM

Seniors, if your household income is under $50,000, you may qualify for King’s College’s LLEO Program, which covers full tuition and fees. This is a great opportunity to attend college with minimal debt, apply to Kings College and file your FAFSA before May 1.

FAFSA

The 2026–27 FAFSA is now available at studentaid.gov. The FAFSA is the first and most important step to get money for college. It also helps determine your eligibility for financial aid from the state level and colleges. Even if you think you won't qualify, you should still apply, as most students receive some form of financial assistance including loans.

SENIORS INTERESTED IN TEACHING

Seniors Interested in Becoming a Teacher: The Teach in NEPA Project is available through LCCC, allowing you to earn both your associate and bachelor’s degrees in Hazleton for under $30,000, plus a $10,000 student teaching stipend. Your diploma will be from Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania. More info is available on your Senior TEAMS page.

INSTANT DECISION DAYS

Some universities are also hosting Instant Decision Days – don’t miss your chance to get accepted! You must sign up to participate. The link to sign up is posted on Teams. If you have any questions, please see your guidance counselor.

SAT FEE WAIVERS

SAT Fee Waivers: Juniors and seniors can get SAT fee waiver code from their school counselor.

NURSE’S OFFICE

The Pennsylvania Department of Health mandates a physical examination be completed by a care provider/physician on all students entering 11th grade. The Pa Dept of Health also mandates all students receive a Meningococcal (MCV) vaccination on or after the student’s 16th birthday to enter 12th grade. Please keep this in mind and discuss it with your care provider/physician at the time of 11th grade physical exam. The state of Pennsylvania requires that all students entering 12th grade must have a 2nd dose of Meningococcal Conjugate (MCV). If the first dose was given at 16 years of age or older, then only one dose is required, and that shall count as the 12th grade dose. Written proof of this immunization from your physician must be returned to the school nurse prior to the first day of 12th grade. Failure to provide the necessary documentation will put your child at risk for exclusion from school.
