CLASS OF 2026 – POWDER PUFF

Seniors, the annual Powder Puff game is being held this year on November 7. You can sign up to play in, be a cheerleader for, or a coach for the Powder Puff game in the office of your building or by emailing Mr. Ringleben at Ringlebenj@hasdk12.org. The deadline for signing up is October 8.

CLASS OF 2028

Our next Executive Council Meeting will be on Tuesday, October 7, at 2:45 in Rm. 208 at the high school. We will be discussing our upcoming fundraisers, homecoming, and other October school events. If you are interested in joining Executive Council, please email Mrs. Moore (moorea@hasdk12.org.) by Friday, October 3 so we can add you to the Microsoft Teams group. New members are always welcomed.

BOOK CLUB

The Book Club will hold a meeting TODAY, Wednesday, October 1 in room 105 HAHS after school. Please attend to discuss the club's participation in the Cougar Carnival. New members are welcome!

COUGAR CLUB UNIFIED

Interested in taking a leadership role in promoting inclusion in our schools and making lifelong friendships? Please join us TODAY, Wednesday, October 1st immediately after school, at the HACC. The meetings last until 4 PM. Meetings will then be held every other Wednesday. We will be presenting information about all our unified opportunities including our unified bocce, cheerleading, track and field teams! Join to learn more!!! New members are always welcome! Bring a friend!

FBLA

The next FBLA meetings will be TODAY, Wednesday, October 1 from 5:00–6:00 PM in the High School Auditorium and Thursday, October 2 from 3:00–4:00 PM in the High School Auditorium. Both meetings will cover the same content, so you only need to attend one. A virtual recording will also be posted on our 2025–2026 FBLA Teams page for anyone unable to attend in person. Don’t forget to check the Teams page regularly for the latest announcements and updates.

LIFESAVERS CLUB

MEETING – There will be a meeting for the Life Savers TODAY, Wednesday Oct 1 at 3pm in room 222 in the HS. We will be discussing the blood drive and other upcoming events. If you cannot make it, be sure to contact Mrs. Yanac. All new members are welcome.

CPR CLASS – The online version of the CPR class being offered this Fall will open on Oct 1st. The QR code for registration can be found on the Life Savers board on the second floor or outside of Room 222. The cost for the course is $65.

BLOOD DRIVE – The fall blood drive will be held in the HS auditorium on Oct 23 from 8-1. Donors must be 17 years or older or can be 16 with signed parental consent from. All information and forms can be found outside the D stairwell on the second floor.

FALL CPR CERTIFICATION CLASS: There is an online course being offered in October and a 2-part in-person course on Oct 27 & 28 in the library. Find the QR code to register on the Life Savers Board across from 224 or outside 222. See Mrs. Yanac if you have questions.

MOCK TRIAL CLUB

Do you love to debate? Are you passionate about justice? Do you dream of becoming a lawyer? Or do you just want to learn about our legal system? Then the Mock Trial team is the place for you! Mock Trial is an exciting, hands-on experience where you can step into the shoes of attorneys and witnesses and argue real cases in a courtroom setting. It’s also a great way to develop your critical thinking, public speaking and teamwork skills. Join us on Thursday, October 2nd from 3:00-5:00 in room 227 for our first informational meeting. Contact Mrs. Tucker in room 205 at HAAH before school or in room 716 at STEM after school if you have any questions.

MONEY MATTERS CLUB

There will be a Money Matters Club meeting TOMORROW, Thursday 10/2/25 after school in room D25 of the Career Center. The meeting will last until 4:00. All interested students in grades 9-12 are welcome to attend. Interested students who cannot attend are encouraged to email Mr. Teter using teterr@hasdk12.org.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY (NHS)

There will be a meeting for all members of the National Honor Society TODAY, Wednesday, October 1, after school in the high school auditorium. The meeting will last approximately half an hour. Any member who cannot attend should contact Mr. Turri

SAT

All students who have registered for this Saturday's administration of the DIGITAL SAT are reminded that the Hazleton test center opens at 7:15 A.M. Test takers should be prepared with your fully charged district-issued Chromebook, pencils or pens, admission ticket, current photo identification, an approved calculator, if desired. Check the College Board website to see what else you may bring to the test. All students should test the Bluebook app and their college board credentials prior to Saturday.

SENIOR PICTURES

Any senior who is not having the picture taken by an outside photographer can still have their pictures taken either during the picture day next week or with Mr. Ringleben. If you are interested in either of these options, please contact Mr. Ringleben or pick up an order form in the main office.

GUIDANCE

TUTORING

Starting October 7th, there will be after school tutoring every Tuesday and Thursday immediately after school until 5PM in the High School Library.

FAFSA

The 2026–27 FAFSA is now available at studentaid.gov. While FAFSA has historically been available on October 1st, recent changes and an earlier rollout means you can access it now to apply for financial aid. The FAFSA is the first and most important step to get money for college. It also helps determine your eligibility for financial aid from the state level and colleges. Even if you think you won't qualify, you should still apply, as most students receive some form of financial assistance including loans.

SENATE PAGE PROGRAM

Do you want to serve in the U.S. Senate in Washington, D.C and experience government in action? The U.S. Senate Page Program offers an opportunity to and experience the legislative process. This is a competitive program with limited spots. The application deadline is October 17. Visit the guidance website or your junior class TEAMS page for additional information.

SENIORS INTERESTED IN TEACHING

Seniors Interested in Becoming a Teacher: The Teach in NEPA Project is available through LCCC, allowing you to earn both your associate and bachelor’s degrees in Hazleton for under $30,000, plus a $10,000 student teaching stipend. Your diploma will be from Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania. More info is available on your Senior TEAMS page.

INSTANT DECISION DAYS

Some universities are also hosting Instant Decision Days – don’t miss your chance to get accepted! You must sign up to participate. The link to sign up is posted on Teams. If you have any questions, please see your guidance counselor.

ASVAB

The ASVAB will be held in the Career Center's Large Group Room at 8AM on November 14th. You must bring your computer. Register by November 10th by using the QR Code posted in the High School's guidance hallway or on the Junior & Senior Teams pages. The ASVAB is a mandatory test that will help you explore career options and is required for military enlistment.

SAT FEE WAIVERS

SAT Fee Waivers: Juniors and seniors can get SAT fee waiver code from their school counselor.

QUESTBRIDGE SCHOLARSHIP

QuestBridge Scholarship: Full scholarships to top colleges for seniors with mostly A’s in rigorous courses, strong writing and motivation, and family income under $65,000. The deadline is September 30 and apply via the Guidance webpage.

NURSE’S OFFICE

The Pennsylvania Department of Health mandates a physical examination be completed by a care provider/physician on all students entering 11th grade. The Pa Dept of Health also mandates all students receive a Meningococcal (MCV) vaccination on or after the student’s 16th birthday to enter 12th grade. Please keep this in mind and discuss it with your care provider/physician at the time of 11th grade physical exam. The state of Pennsylvania requires that all students entering 12th grade must have a 2nd dose of Meningococcal Conjugate (MCV). If the first dose was given at 16 years of age or older, then only one dose is required, and that shall count as the 12th grade dose. Written proof of this immunization from your physician must be returned to the school nurse prior to the first day of 12th grade. Failure to provide the necessary documentation will put your child at risk for exclusion from school.
