Cougar Boys and Girls keep momentum with matching 3rd place efforts at Baker tournament On Sunday, January 18th, the Cougars traveled to Clearview Lanes in Mt. Joy for the Lebanon-Lancaster Baker Tournament, a 15 game tune up for the upcoming Regional Qualifiers. The boys team started hot out of the gate with a 235 before a 144 3rd game slowed them down. Juniors Zach Fetchko and Owen Houser led the charge. Their opening 555 series would set them in the top 5 that they followed up with a 537 and 544 set before a rare triplicate 212/636 4th set bumped them into the top 3 before closing with a 562. Their 2834 total was just one pin shy of second but good enough to make the finals. On the girls side, they steadily held on to the top three throughout the day, paced by strong showings by senior Gianna Famalette and juniors Riley Nahay and Keerah Stahora, whose 7 strikes in a row led all Cougars. Their 2218 put them comfortably into the cut heading into finals. In the finals, the boys just couldn’t find their rhythm, losing in straight games in the best of three series to Dallastown 187-179 and 194-152. The girls faced Elizabethtown, splitting the first two games to set up a decisive game three but it wasn’t meant to be as E-Town shut the door on them late to move on to the title game.
