Why are sight words so important?
Sight words are words that don't typically follow a phonics pattern. Therefore, they can't be "sounded out." Sight words are words we must know from memory. If your child has a large repertoire of sight word knowledge, their overall reading fluency will improve, which will in turn improve overall comprehension.
