Hi! My name is Ms. Houser, and I will be your child’s kindergarten teacher! This is my third year teaching kindergarten at the Early Learning Center, I have taught this grade for 17 years. Before joining the HASD, I owned a licensed preschool for 10 years, and I also worked in other preschools and daycares. I often say that teaching kindergarten is not a ‘career’, it is a ‘way of life’. This is your child’s most important year of schooling, and I am extremely dedicated to their success.
I FINALLY completed my Master’s degree from Wilkes University, and I am now a certified Reading Specialist. I recently earned my endorsement as a STEM teacher - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, as well as my certification in elementary education, from Lycoming College many, many years ago. I am also certified as a Private Academic Nursery and Kindergarten School teacher. I believe I am a lifelong learner and proof that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks!
I have 2 children and 2 grandchildren (so far!). My daughter, Jillian, is 29. She and her husband, Jawad, are the parents of my 6-year-old grandson, Anson, and my newborn grandson, Iman. My son, Matthew, is 26. He and his girlfriend, Megan, are parents to my furry grandkitties, Lucifer, Pumpkin, and Baby Cat. It seems very fitting to be continuing my teaching career at ELC as both of my children attended this building for their elementary educations.
When I’m not at school, I enjoy time with my partner, Chuck, and our furbabies. We have 4 rescue kitties named Buddy, Hank, Finnegan, and Peanut. I like to read, garden, and cross stitch.
Thanks for reading this far! I look forward to getting to know all of you!
