Kindergarten is a very exciting time in your child's life! For many children, it is their first experience in a formal classroom setting. Our class focuses on learning through fun and creative experiences. If at any time you have any questions about your child or our classroom procedures, please do not hesitate to write me a note, to contact me through Class Tag, or to send me an email (houserk@hasdk12.org). We are partners this year, working our hardest together to achieve the best results for your child.
Some important things to remember this year :
* Please be sure your child brings his or her folder to school every day. Work completed in school will be put on the "Keep at Home" side of the folder. This work should be taken out and reviewed by parents every night so you know what your child is learning. Any papers for you to complete or homework for your child will be put on the "Return to School" side of the folder. Parents must sign homework after it is completed. Completing and returning homework is part of your child learning to become independent and responsible. Therefore, if your child does not complete or return homework, he or she will not be allowed to have playtime the day the assignment was due. Notes for me should be put in your child's folder or sent through Class Tag. Remember that it is district policy that your child's backpack be clear or mesh.
* Please be sure to write me a note if your child's transportation home changes. If your child normally rides the bus but will be picked up by you on a particular day, I must have a note or your child will be sent home on the bus as usual. Anyone, including parents, must be able to show photo identification when picking up a child at any time. Please remember that if your child is a bus student, someone must be at the bus stop in order for your child to be allowed to get off the bus.
* This year, kindergarten students will be having lunch at 12 :35 PM. That seems like a long time from breakfast, so we will be having a snack every morning between 10:00 and 11:00 AM. Please be sure to send a healthy snack (fruit, crackers, etc., and a drink) to school EVERY day. I keep snacks at school for children who occasionally forget their snacks, but I will not provide snacks for a child every day. Please remember to also send a small drink - no drinks with caffeine, and no drinks in glass bottles. If your child will be packing a lunch, please be sure to label the snack bag separately from the lunch bag. At 5 and 6 years old, we have a tendency to eat everything we see at snack and not save anything for lunch! :O)
