APPLICATIONS for 2018-2019 School Year
*****Signed commitment letters from parents of accepted students to the Hazleton Area Academy of Sciences must be returned to the guidance counselor at the student's school or mailed to Mrs. Ernst at the High School by March 6, 2018
Letters stating acceptance status will be mailed to students on March 1, 2018. Students needed a minimum of 85 % of the points on the test to be considered for acceptance. Eight students are accepted from each middle school, 6 outplacement students will be accetped, and the rest of the students will be ranked for acceptance. You may have 85% of the points and be placed on a wait list. Please click the application process on the home screen for details and dates for the process. If you are accepted, you must return the bottom portion of your acceptance letter to your school counselor by March 6, 2018. 135 eight grade students will be accepted for the 2018-2019 school year.
Students currently in grades 9-11 will be able to apply to attend the academy anytime during the month of April of 2018. Please let your school counselor know if you are interested in applying.
Part one is completed by the school counselor and teachers. Part two is completed by the students at school in a testing environment or at the academy for outplacement students on January 30, 2018 from 6:00 PM-7:30 PM. You will be given one hour to take the test consisting of science and math problems and one essay. Students do not know the questions ahead of time. The questions are based on skills covered in science classes. Outplacement students should bring their previous year's report card and all grades for the current school year that you have.
Current students do not need to re-apply. Students need to maintain grades (overall GPA of 85, 85 or better in science and math courses, and cannot fail any classes). Students will go on academic probabation for one semester if they do not maintain this criteria. Students will be tutored in class or after school. You must show some improvement or an alternative setting will be discussed.
