    Parents,
Below is a list of Reading games/activities that you can play with your child to improve or enhance his/her reading ability.

Tic Tac Toe: Have your child write their spelling or reading words on a Tic Tac Toe board.  Your child must read the word correctly in order to be able to put an ”X” or “O” in the space.

Hangman: Choose a spelling or reading word. Have your child guess the letters until they correctly spell the word or get hanged.

Word Scramble: Mix up the letters of a word and have your child figure out what the word is by rearranging the  letters.

Stepping Stones: Cut out large  circles.  Write words on the circles.  To play, call out, “Jump on Mom.”  Your child has to find the correct circle and keep jumping up and down until the next instruction is received.

Scavenger Hunt: Have your child go on word hunts around the house.  Give your child words they can locate. They can look for words on labels, in newspapers, magazines, catalogues, books, etc.

Match: Make a set of identical word cards and play a matching game with them.  If your child uncovers two of the same words and correctly reads them then a successful match has been made.

Tracing Letters: One player “writes” a letter on another player’s back.  The second player has to guess what the first player has written.  Trace letters which spell a word.

Highlight It: Give your child a newspaper and a highlighter pen to locate and  highlight a list of given words.

Words Within Words: Write a word down for your child and see how many other words he can find in it.

Quick Writes: See how many words your child can write down within a minute.  You can have your child write the name of objects in the room, foods, etc.
