    Dear Parents or Guardians,

I am very happy to have your child in my classroom and am looking forward to work with him/her this year.  I believe that when all of us work together we can make a difference in your child’s learning and make this a successful year.  I believe firmly in you, parents or guardians, being active and participating in your child’s education.  My goal is to educate and nurture your child.  I cannot do it alone, but with your help, and with your child’s dedicated involvement in his or her learning, your child can succeed to the best of his or her ability.

In our classroom, we will constantly stress the following expectations:  be responsible, be respectful, and be curious.  I need your help and your child’s help to meet these expectations.   Please encourage your child to do the following:

    To be responsible:

    ·         Bring books, notebook, paper, and pen or pencil.  He or she needs to bring these supplies to class EVERY day.

    ·         Take notice:  Written homework assignments are due at the next assigned class.  Impending quiz and test dates and assignment due dates are written on the board.  Your child needs to check it daily and make a note of dates in his or her date book.  It is expected that your child will do the homework, whenever it is assigned.

    ·         Your child’s grade is based upon his or her work.  Your child will have every opportunity to earn it.

    ·         Remind your child that no electronic devices are allowed in the classroom.  It is the school policy.  Leave cell phones, iPods, and DS games, etc. at home or in his/her locker or they will be confiscated.

    ·         Follow dress code policy and other school policies.  They are in effect at all times.

    To be respectful:

    ·         Respect his or her classmates and the teacher.  Your child should not talk when the teacher or another student is talking.

    ·         Orally or in writing of vulgar, off color or insensitive remarks will not be tolerated.   Profanity is not allowed to use in any work to be submitted or will result in a zero on that assignment.

    ·         ESL class time is for ESL work.  It is not the time to complete homework or to study for other subjects.

    To be curious:

    ·         I have always told my students that no question asked sincerely is ever a dumb question.  I shall encourage that your child ask questions, because it is an essential part to his or her learning.

    ·         Your child should feel free to share his or her ideas.

    ·         We will learn from each other, so questioning and sharing ideas are important.

    ·         DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS.

You are encouraged to phone me or visit the school at any time that you have a question or a concern regarding your child’s learning and progress.  I will also keep you inform by sending home a progress report during mid-quarter of every quarter.  If at any time your child has any difficulty whether relating to academic or behavioral issues in the classroom, I will notify you.  I also hope that you will communicate with me should your child has a problem, whether, academically, socially, or emotionally, so that we can determine the cause of the problem.

I truly believe it is vital that you as parents or guardians play an active role in your child’s education.  I BELIEVE THAT PARENT INVOLVMENT IS VERY IMPORTANT.  I also believe that it is important that you and your child be informed of my classroom’s expectations and the school’s policy, because I have always found parents to be very supportive in wanting and helping to create a good classroom and school environment where their child can learn and can succeed.  The more you are involved with your child’s learning, the greater success he or she will have in school.

It is a great privilege to be your child’s teacher this year, and I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know each of you.

    Sincerely yours,

     Mrs. Beiler
