**Next week is our last week of school.  Please feel free to work ahead on your own schedule and complete the course!

    Week 4- 5/26-5/29

    Subject: SCIENCE

    Class Period(s): 7 & 8

Teacher Message: We will continue using Edgenuity to cover new material.  You should be working in the second Science course titled "PDE - PA-Science 8 B Fetterman 19-20".  At this point in time, you should have completed the first 4 lessons: “Genetic Code”, “Introduction to Heredity”, “Predicting Heredity” and “The Theory of Evolution”.  Please remember the course is for the next 2 weeks.  Work on it at your own pace.

    Weekly Objective(s):

    1. Examine how natural selection leads to evolution.
    2. Identify the conditions required for natural selection.
    3. Identify ways in which genetic variation and environmental factors contribute to natural selection.
    4. Describe factors that contribute to the extinction of a species.
    5. Examine natural selection within a population.
    6. Analyze data to determine phenotype changes through generations.

                 Standard:

    S8.A.1.3.3

Examine systems changing over time, identifying the possible variables causing this change, and drawing inferences about how these variables affect this change.

    S8.B.2.1.1

Explain how inherited structures or behaviors help organisms survive and reproduce in different environments.

    S8.B.2.1.2

Explain how different adaptations in individuals of the same species may affect survivability or reproduction success.

    S8.B.2.1.5

Explain that adaptations are developed over long periods of time and are passed from one generation to another.

    S8.B.3.2.3

Describe the response of organisms to environmental changes (e.g., changes in climate, hibernation, migration, coloration) and how those changes affect survival.

PDN: Your daily PDN will be on www.flocabulary.com.  When you log into the site, there is an assignment titled "Evolution:Dogs".  There are 5 parts to the assignment.  You can complete one part per day as your PDN.

**Most of you already have a Flocabulary Account that you set up in weeks past.  If you need the information of how to set up an account, please email me.  fettermana@hasdk12.org

    Subject: SCIENCE

    Class Period(s): 7 & 8

Teacher Message: We will continue using Edgenuity to cover new material.  You should be working in the second Science course titled "PDE - PA-Science 8 B Fetterman 19-20".  At this point in time, you should have completed the first 2 lessons “Genetic Code” and “Introduction to Heredity”.  Please remember the course is for the next 3 weeks.  You don't need to finish the course in 1 week!!!  Work on it at your own pace.

    Weekly Objective(s):

    1. Determine the probability of genotype combinations using a Punnett square.
    2. Identify the phenotype of an organism based on its genotype.
    3. Define probability and use it to explain the results of a genetic cross.
    4. Summarize Darwin's theory of evolution.
    5. Examine the evidence Darwin used to support his theory of evolution.
    6. Analyze the historical development of the theory of evolution.

                 Standard:

    S8.A.1.2.1

Describe the positive and negative, intended and unintended, effects of specific scientific results or technological developments (e.g., air/space travel, genetic engineering, nuclear fission/fusion, artificial intelligence, lasers, organ transplants).

    S8.A.1.2.3

Describe fundamental scientific or technological concepts that could solve practical problems (e.g., Newton’s Laws of motion, Mendelian genetics).

    S8.A.1.3.1

Use ratio to describe change (e.g., percents, parts per million, grams per cubic centimeter, mechanical advantage).

    S8.B.2.1.3
