2019 - 2020Fifteen HAHS band students attended the Pennsylvania Music Educators District 9 Band Festival at Montrose HS from February 12 - 14, 2020. Each student auditioned in November 2019 in order to qualify for District Band. They will audition on the first evening to try out for the Region IV Band. The band is comprised of 140 top Northeast PA high school musicians from Susquehanna to Luzerne Counties. Each student auditioned in November 2019 in order to qualify for District Orchestra. They will audition on the first evening for the Northest Region Orchestra. The orchestra is comprised of 140 top Northeast PA high school musicians from Susquehanna to Luzerne Counties. This year students worked with Dr. Lauren Reynolds, Patrick Erwin, and Colonel Don Schofield who is the commander and conductor of The United States Air Force Band. Three members of the HAHS Band have successfully auditioned for the 2019 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) All-State Music Festival. Each student auditioned in November 2018 in order to qualify for District Band, completed a second round of elimination auditions to participate in the Region IV Band, and completed a third round of elimination auditions in order to qualify for the PMEA All-State Music Festival. The PMEA All-State Festival includes the top high school musicians from around the state. Marissa Clatch, Tristian Haraschak, Giovanni Forte, and Neil Forte (Middle & Dressed in Black) participated in the two day PMEA District 9 Jazz Festival which they auditioned into during December Auditions. Madison Light, Erica Trella, Andrew Rudenko, Hailey Dudinyak, Kaitlynne Drennan, Matthew Muse, Luke Kranyak, and James Fanjoy participated in the one day Jazz Fest which they were nominated for. Each student participating prepared diligently for the Festival and displayed outstanding performance skills in their evening performance.Three HAHS band students attended the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Region IV Orchestra Festival at Dallas High School School on March 23th. Each student auditioned during the District 9 Orchestra festival in order to qualify in the top rankings to be allowed in the orchestra. They will audition for the All-State Festival in April and then rehearse all day to prepare for a public concert at 7 pm. Students attending are: Marissa Clatch, Martha Reed, and Sarah KoviackTwenty-two HAHS band students have been selected to participate in the Luzerne County Band Festival on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. The all day festival will be held at Dallas High School in Dallas, Pa and there will be a concert at 7pm, open to the public to enjoy various band music from two bands, one featuring 7-9 grade students and the other featuring 10-12 grade students. The band members were accepted by a committee of band directors based on recommendation of their abilities in the HAHS band. Each student has to meet the criteria of excellent participation and musical ability in order to be considered for the festival. They will practice and perform in the concert alongside students from various Luzerne County Middle/Junior and Senior High Schools, over 120 students in all.
