Welcome! My name is Miss Maduro and I teach 4th grade Reading, Spelling, English, and Writing. I am located in Room 22! Here are a few things to know in order to make this year run smoothly.

    Reading
We will be using the McGraw-Hill Reading Series this year along with various chapter books that follow the fourth grade curriculum. For each story, students will receive a set of notes regarding the story and the different skills they will be using along with a set of vocabulary words. At the end of each story, the students will take a vocabulary test and an open-book comprehension and skills test. Test dates will be scheduled well in advance so that students have more than enough time to study for the test and learn the material.

    English
Along with the McGraw-Hill Grammar Book, students will be using the Houghton Mifflin textbooks to learn various skills. From time to time, students will receive worksheets for classwork and/or homework that are from the Houghton Mifflin series. The units we will be covering this year are:  Sentences, Capitalization and Punctuation, Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives, Pronouns, and Adverbs.  **(The unit on Capitalization and Punctuation can be difficult. The students need to be accurate.)

    Spelling

Spelling words will be given in a packet this year. Spelling homework varies from week to week.  It may include: 3x each, ABC order, writing a good sentence for each word, or make up a story using as many spelling words as possible. Students need to write all spelling assignments and tests in CURSIVE. Please practice this skill at home. (This skill was introduced in second grade and practiced again in third grade.) This skill will also be used in fifth and sixth grade.
