• Dear Parents/Guardians,

As part of our reading and writing instruction, the students will be learning sight words (also referred to as high frequency words). Sight words help us learn to read and write. There are approximately 40 sight words that we will be focusing on learning in Kindergarten throughout the year.

Sight words will be introduced to the students throughout each of the four (4) quarters. These are words that students will need to memorize. While we will be working with these words daily as they are introduced, I encourage you to practice these words with your child for a few minutes each night. Students will be tested on reading the words to me individually near the end of each quarter.

Here are some simple ideas for your child to help practice the sight words at home:

    • read the words
    • write each word on an index card and attach it to a ring to make a "word ring"
    • write and say the words
    • build the words with letters (magnetic letters, foam letters, etc.)
    • find the words in books or around the house

Attached is a list of sight words for year, broken down by our four (4) quarters of school. All of the sight words for the year can be found here my website as well as on the paper copy that was sent home at orientation.

Thank you for your support and cooperation! If you have any questions, please let me know. Thank you!!
