Dear Parents/Guardians,

As part of our reading and writing instruction, the students will be learning high frequency words (also referred to as sight words). High frequency words help us learn to read and write. There are approximately 40+ high frequency words that we will be focusing on learning throughout the year.

High frequency words will be introduced to the students throughout each of the four quarters. These are words that students will need to memorize. While we will be working with these words daily as they are introduced, I encourage you to practice these words with your child for a few minutes each night. Students will be tested on reading the words to me individually near the end of each quarter.

Here are some simple ideas for your child to help practice the high frequency words at home:

• read the words
• write and say the words
• build the words with letters (magnetic letters, foam letters, etc.)
• find the words in books or around the house

Attached is a list of the high frequency words for year, broken down by our four quarters of school. All of the high frequency words for the year can be found in the files section of Teams and on my website as well.
