• Elementary/Middle School Instrumental Music
Students can start taking lessons on an instrument in fourth grade. An instrument can be chosen from a list of available choices for the band program. Instruments are available for rental purchase through area music stores. Instruments can also be brought in by the students  and will be inspected by each band director to be approved for lessons. All lessons are based on a pull-out basis where students come for instruction on a rotating schedule from their regularly scheduled classes once a week. A newsletter will be distributed each September inviting students and parents to join the HASD Instrumental Program.
Instrumental rental meetings are scheduled at:
    Maple Manor Elementary/Middle School, Wednesday, September 21, 2022, 630-8pm
    Valley Elementary/Middle School for Thursday, September 22, 2022, 630-8pm.
All Instrumental Directors and Sales Representatives will be attending both sessions to assist and answer questions. All instruments offered will be on display.

Marching Band/Concert Band Classes are available for students to schedule as a class starting in ninth grade. Marching Band includes students that have instrumental experience and would like to perform in various venues including field show and parades. The field show is performed at each football game and at marching band competitions. Parades are throughout the area communities for special occasions and holidays. The marching band continues performing indoors throughout the year in concerts at the HAHS auditorium. Concert Band is for students that have instrumental experience and would like to only perform indoors throughout the year.
Jazz Ensemble is offered to students as an after school ensemble at HAHS and is entered by audition only, 9-12 grades. Openings are posted each school year in the band room in September. The group performs at HS concerts, community events, and various jazz festivals throughout the year. Students are exposed the many styles of jazz literature.
Various instrumental ensembles are also offered each year to students enrolled in the HS instrumental music program. This could include percussion, woodwind, brass, saxophone, flute, clarinet, and jazz combo offerings.

Hazleton Area High School Arts & Humanities

The Arts & Humanities are interconnected through the inclusion of history, criticism and aesthetics. Taught within the confines of the Hazleton Area High School building, the HAAH program showcases not only individual student's creative spirits, but it provides a conduit by which the academic and the artistic talents of our community's young artists may shine though.

The academic standards utilized for the Arts and Humanities curriculum define the specific content for planned instruction, resulting in measurable gains for all students in knowledge and skills as well as providing a basis of learning for continued study in the arts.

Students may elect to audition for an arts-studio placement in the following categories: Visual Arts, Drama, Dance, Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, and Communication Arts.
