Welcome to Mrs. Orfield’s Kindergarten Class!
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I wanted to send a letter home to introduce myself and explain a little bit about what we will be doing in kindergarten. My name is Ashley Orfield. I graduated from Bloomsburg University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. I also received my ESL Certification while at Bloomsburg. In May 2014, I received my Masters in Reading at King’s College. I hope to continue my goal of being a life-long learner in the field of education.
I am excited about my fourteenth year of teaching kindergarten and making learning fun for students, but I also need support from parents. Completing homework and working with your child after school is an important part of student success. Kindergarten gives students a foundation for what they will need to become excellent students. In our classroom we will be working on skills as a whole group, in small groups, such as centers, and when possible, I will be working with students individually.
During the beginning of kindergarten, we will work on skills such as writing their first and last name, letter and sound recognition, patterns, recognizing and writing numbers. As the year progresses, students will learn how to segment words for reading and learn sight words. Also, students will learn how to count from 1-100, recognize numbers 1-30, and simple addition/subtraction.
Here are some things that parents should know about our kindergarten class. This information can also be found on my website. (www.hasdk12.org/htems) If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me via email (orfielda@hasdk12.org), by sending me a message on Parent Square, or by calling Heights Terrace Elementary/Middle School.
