    May 3, 2020:

Tomorrow, May 4th, the district is required to continue education with students.

May 4th- May 8th - Quarter 3 grades can be increased by students catching up on any work that was not completed prior to us being out of school. To make this fair for everyone in my classes, I will be allowing students to "make up" their work by completing the first section of work that is posted on the new cyber school program that the district will be using for all 7-12th grade students.

Edgenuity - is a cyber school program where teachers have already set up and added you to their classes. Within this program, you will find videos, practice problems, assignments, quizzes, and tests. In order to log in to this site, you will use the same username and password as you do for Skyward. The first time you log into the site you will see a tutorial video with a lot of useful information on how to navigate through the site.

Each week, students will be required to complete 2-3 hours of work within each of thier courses. This first week is a practice/makeup week. So make sure to become familiar with the website and how to locate everything that you are looking for. Teachers will be able to see the number of times you log on, the assignments you complete, your correct/incorrect answers, quiz/test grades, and how much time you have completed within the course during each login session/day/week.

Starting May 11th, students will earn a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grade. This grade will be based upon the amount of time/participation that you put into the course.

    • Not happy with your Quarter 3 grade in Skyward: You can complete “make-up” work during the first week of online instruction to raise your Quarter 3 grade. “Make-up” work will be material on Edgenuity that was previously taught in class and reviewed through the enrichment period. Please check Skyward to see your Quarter 3 grades.
      • Quarters 3 will be used to calculate a student’s course grade
    • Quarter 4 Grading = Participation only!
        • 0 – 50% participation will be considered unsatisfactory
        • 51 – 100% participation will be satisfactory
        • Quarter 4 will only count toward credits and not GPA! In order to receive your course credit, you will need to participate during our online Cyber School period and earn a Satisfactory. If you do not earn your course credit, it is very possible that you may not be able to move on to the next course within sequence.

If you are unable to log in to Edgenuity, please contact your teacher first. We will do our best to check your login informaiton as quickly as possible. The best way to contact your teachers is though district email. My email address is kelcherk@hasdk12.org .  Teachers will be required to have office hours each day thoughout the week. This time will be 1-2 pm Monday thru Thursday. This means that your teachers should be able to reply quickly to you during that time each day Monday thru Friday.

Here are a few helpful links where you can find more information:

    Attendance:

Students are required to complete 2-3 hours within each of their courses thoughout the week. If you are having difficulty logging in, please reach out to your teachers. This hour requirement can be completed anytime thoughout the week, BUT if you have not logged in on Monday or Tuesday of each week your teachers will be reaching out to make sure that everything is ok. This will be though Skyward email or phone call home. If you know that you will not be completing assignments until later in the week, let your teachers know ahead of time so you are not bothered by us calling each week.

    This is new for everyone!!!

Please have patients with the Edgenuity site!! It may be slow thoughout the day with so many students requiring access to the page.

Use the Email feature within the Edgenuity site!! This is the easiest way for students to contact teachers and teachers to contact students.

Need a reminder??? Let's use the Remind App!

I will begin using the remind app to help stay in touch with each of my classes. At the beginning of each week I will send a reminder to login to Edgenuity, remind you to let me know if you will be working on the assginments later in the week so I do not have to call home, and let you know what you are expected to complete for that week. If you would like to receive these notifications (text/email) please dowload the remind app and join the correct class or use the appropriate link below:

Today I was made aware that if you did not join a Khan Academy course within a certain time frame of it being set up that you were unable to see the assignments that I had assigned to the class. The assignment dates have been updated. If you were having trouble finding the enrichment assignments on Khan Academy, please login to the website and check to make sure they are there today.

Students, please continue working though the Khan Academy website. When you join the class with the codes provided below, you will be able to see the assignments that I am providing you. These assignments review topics that we had covered while in the classroom. There are great review videos and step by step directions on how to solve problems. Please try some of these assignments and become familiar with the website. This site is a great way for me to track how long you have spent on assignments, topics, etc. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!! You can message me through skyward or by email: kelchnerk@hasdk12.org

They will help you to recall the information that we have already covered within each of your classes.

Again, please email me with any questions or concerns. I am looking for feedback on your experience with the Khan Academy website. Is everything working smoothly on your end? Any trouble or difficulty? Please let me know. kelchnerk@hasdk12.org

Enjoy your Easter weekend. Although we are not able to gather with all of our family and celebrate, take some time to relax and find some positive outlooks during such a tough time.

    March 29th, 2020:

During a time of such uncertainty, it is most important to take care of yourselves first. Please reach out to me if there is anything that you are in need of help with. I will make sure to do my best to relay information to the correct people in order to help find any necessary resources.

If you are able to access the below resources, please take some time each week to ensure that sure you do not forget what we have spent soooo much time on during the current school semester. This content is not only necessary for you to recall within future math courses, but also a great way to keep your brain actively engaged and sharp.

I have left some "assignments" for you within Khan Academy. If you are able to create a user account, please do so and use the correct code to join the course. The assignments that I have chosen include topics that we have recently covered. There are tons of practice problems, videos, and explanations that can help you strengthen your skills on the topics that should be familiar to you. Feel free to navigate around the website and try topics that you have covered within the many other math courses that you have already taken as well as some more challenging topics that you may or may not have seen yet. Reach out to me with any questions that you may have.

**A reminder, these assignments will not be directly graded by me and incorporated within your semester grades for the current courses that you are taken. They are to be used as enrichment in order to strengthen your skills and the topics that have already been covered within our classes together.

If you are unable to access Khan Academy, there are multiple other resources for you to look though on the HAHS MATH dept page .

I hope you are able to enjoy some of the down time that you have while we are out of the school building. I look forward to seeing you in class again and hope that will occur again soon.
