• Middle School
         Beginning in the year that a student with a disability will become 14 years of age, the HASD Special Education Department offers a variety of transition programs. The IEP team convenes to design a coordinated set of activities driven by the student's needs, interests, and strengths. In eighth grade, a portfolio is initiated for students to track their secondary school experiences. Also in eighth grade, students meet with the transition liaison to receive instruction in self-determination and self-advocacy.
