    Mrs. Beidleman Room 221

    Crafts 1

In Crafts I, students will learn about various art crafts.  For example, they will be completing a book binding project.  In learning this type of art they will not only create their own book, but also learn about the history as well as artists who have used this art form.  Students will be introduced to different cultural crafts and travel to other worlds to view this art.  Students will also spend a great deal learning about recycling and reusing different materials in their art work.

Students will explore crafts using resources such as the internet, books, as well as movies throughout the year.  Everyone is expected to try their best at any given assignment.  There may be aspects of assignments he or she may not feel accomplished in, but TRY NO MATTER what!  That is what I am here for, to help you grow as a student in any way possible.

    TAKE YOUR TIME ON PROJECTS!!!

This class is a very hands-on-class and most of our work is done in class, so daily attendance is expected.  Students will not be able to take certain projects and materials home so they must be completed on class time.  Students should dress appropriately since we will be working with materials that can cause messes and expect to have their hands dirty from time to time.

There will be homework from time to time, as well as writing assignments.  Students are expected to bring a pencil every day!!  Students should know that this art room contains materials that must be used correctly.  If students are caught using materials inappropriately they will no longer have access to these items.

Students’ artwork will be posted on my website so parents, as well as other family members will be able to view their work.  The website can be viewed through the school’s homepage www.hasdk12.org.   If parents have any questions they may contact me here at the Hazleton Area High School at (570)-459-3221 or email me at beidlemanj@hasdk12.org

    Grading Policy:

    Craft Projects: 40%

Largest aspect of Crafts class is the production of an art project to show skill and understanding of the material taught.

Craftsmanship: 15% - based on how well the student finishes projects neatly, works in a group setting, and participates in daily clean up and organization.

    Attendance/Participation: 25%

Students must be in class daily to complete projects by a given date.  Students whom are late or absent without an appropriate excused absence will have points deducted from this part of their grade.  Students whom go over 7 unexcused absences a marking quarter will receive a 0 to 50% for their participation grade.

Students cannot take these materials home, so it is very important they come to class.

    Quizzes/Please Do Nows: 10%

Students will write daily notes in a class folder provided for them, as well as copy important definitions that go with each project.  Quizzes will be given off and on to see how much the students understand and were they may need more help.

At times, students may be allowed to use notes for a quiz, so it is very critical the student copies notes provided to them.

    Total:  100%

These 5 aspects of Crafts I class equal to an overall percent of 100.

    Writing Assignments: 10%

Students will be asked to write about their projects and how they feel their work is going.  They will have to write in complete sentences and answer questions listed to see what areas they may be struggling in and areas they felt they achieved greatly.

Mid-term Exams will be given at the end of each term where the student can pick a project to talk about and must answer questions based on that project.  This exam is completed during in class time.
