    Stages of clay

    Mosaic
    • A picture or decorative design made by setting small colored pieces of material; such as, stone, glass or tile, onto a surface.
    Transfer 
    • To take an image from one piece of paper and apply it to another area to be worked on.
    Direct Method(Tesserae)
    • are directly fixed top side up onto a surface and then grouted.
     
    Indirect Method
    • pieces are temporarily fixed top side down onto a removable surface. This is (then) cast in its final form and the temporary base material is removed to reveal the mosaic, top side up. The indirect method is most often used when the finished surface needs to be extremely smooth.
    Grout
    • A mortar or paste for filling crevices, esp. the gaps between wall, floor tiles, or mosaic art work.
    Canvas Board
    • the hard surface used to draw, paint, as well as place glass onto to create a mosaic.

    Wheeled Glass Nippers
    • a pliers like instrument which uses carbide wheels in order to cut glass or tile.
