Quarantine Cool Art Tutorials
No matter what your ability level, we can all benefit from sharpening our skills! Please remember, this is ungraded enrichment, but I would LOVE to see what you have done now and/or when we return to school! (Hmm, maybe with even more baklava, or some kind of celebration...! lol) Feel free to use the sketchbook that I issued to everyone before we left! Even if it's just in plain pencil, it's such a great art workout!
This is an excellent tutorial for drawing the dreaded detailed hand! Not only does she talk of how to construct and proportion the hand, but also a variety of detailed shading techniques for several types of hands.

This is a tutorial for drawing a very realistic eye. It takes a while, but she makes a lot of interesting points about things to consider.

This is a short and great tutorial to make realistic lips. Notice how important the directions of her lines are. Also notice how she builds her shading gradually, being careful to not get too dark too fast. (She has a fun accent, too! lol) I'm tempted to explore more of her tutorials, so you just might see more in the future here!

This is a One Point Perspective tutorial similar to the one I shared on Remind last week, except this goes beyond the cubes to create a basic landscape with buildings. Perspective should've been introduced to you by your k-8 art teachers, but I know that each teacher approaches it differently. So overall this should be a review, however some concepts for some of you might build on your prior knowledge a bit. Just be very mindful that verticals are true verticals...your mind will try to trick you into making right angles on a plane that is going away from you, when you should instead be making acute and obtuse angles! Perspective might seem tedious for some of you who don't prefer mechanical drawing, but it's an excellent skill to practice that gives your art more depth!

This is a sketch study of how to really observe how light plays on forms, and how you can strengthen your drawing skills by being more observant of this. My juniors and seniors who created a still life from direct observation practiced this (as long as you always set up your reference with the lamp). This is the same artist who did the lip tutorial, and she really does lovely work. It's very short...under 9 minutes.

More to come! Stay tuned!
